Gamers will be able to download the update in the background if they choose to set their device to Connected Standby

Microsoft is getting close to delivering the biggest update in the short history of the Xbox One, and the company says that all those interested in getting access to the new user experience as soon as possible should be ready to download and apply it at 12 AM Pacific Time on Thursday, November 12, which is the equivalent of 8 AM Greenwich Mean Time and 3 AM Eastern Time.

Users should put their device in Connected Standby mode to make sure that they automatically get the update and then install it without asking for input.

Those who are sticking to Energysaving settings for the Xbox One will have to check for the update and download it manually when they first use the device.

Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, the leading community liaison at Microsoft, adds on his blog, Note that all Xbox One consoles will receive a prompt for a mandatory update on November 23rd if they have not yet updated to the New Xbox One Experience.

The company is not saying how big the update is, which is an important piece of information for gamers who are interested in preparing their consoles for the deployment process.

Backwards compatibility for the Xbox One is arriving at the same time, with gamers able to then refresh their game collection, to download a game from the Xbox 360 they have access to, or to use a classic disc to play older favorites.

Microsoft has offered a list of more than 100 titles that are included in the first batch of releases, with promises that more will be announced soon.

The New Xbox One Experience will no longer support the use of Kinect gestures because Microsoft says that only a very small number of users were interested in them.

The company believes that the improvements and the integration with the new Windows 10 operating system will make the home console more popular and will boost its sales in time for the crucial Christmas period.

Microsoft has also promised that it will deliver some rewards to those players who have tested the new features in the Preview program.

The Xbox One is at the moment selling more units than the 360 did at the same point during its lifetime, but the device is unable to catch up to the gap that the PlayStation 4 from Sony has opened up, both in the United States and on a worldwide level.
